Essential PVC Hose Technical Terms
Working Pressure (WP)
The maximum internal pressure that a PVC hose is engineered to withstand safely during continuous, standard operations. At Ruihai, we specify our working pressure based on international testing standards, always leaving a generous safety margin to accommodate temporary pressure spikes within your system.
Burst Pressure (BP)
The absolute pressure threshold at which a PVC hose or its internal reinforcing layer structurally fails or ruptures. This destructive test is conducted in a controlled laboratory environment at a standard temperature of 20°C. For industrial safety, the typical industry standard requires a 3:1 or 4:1 safety ratio between Burst Pressure and Working Pressure.
Bending Radius (Static vs. Dynamic)
The minimum radius to which a flexible PVC hose can be curved without kinking, flattening, or restricting internal fluid flow.
  • Static Bending Radius: The minimum allowable curve when the hose is installed in a fixed, permanent position.
  • Dynamic Bending Radius: The minimum allowable curve when the hose is subjected to continuous, repetitive movements during operation.
Kink Resistance

Anti-Static PVC Formulation
A specialized polymer compounding method where conductive additives or a dedicated copper grounding wire are integrated into the PVC wall. This accelerates the dissipation of static electricity generated by friction during the high-speed transfer of powders, granules, or combustible liquids, eliminating the risk of electrostatic sparks.
Braided Fiber Reinforcement
The process of embedding high-tensile polyester fibers or yarns between the inner and outer layers of a PVC hose. This braided mesh structure dramatically increases the hose’s tensile strength, allowing it to handle elevated working pressures without expanding or bursting.
Steel Wire Spiral Reinforcement
The engineering process of embedding a galvanized steel wire helix inside the PVC wall during extrusion. This creates a crush-proof, heavy-duty framework that enables the hose to handle deep vacuum suction (negative pressure) and aggressive drainage without collapsing.
Shore Hardness (A vs. D)
A standardized metric used to measure a plastic material’s resistance to indentation. For flexible PVC hoses, we utilize the Shore A scale. A lower number (e.g., 65 Shore A) represents a soft, highly flexible tube, while a higher number (e.g., 85 Shore A) indicates a rigid, abrasion-resistant outer cover.
Plasticizer Migration
A natural aging phenomenon where flexible agents within the PVC gradually move to the surface over time due to heat or chemical exposure, causing the hose to harden or embrittle. Helix Suction Hose
A specific category of PVC hose reinforced with a rigid PVC spiral helix rather than a metal wire. This type of construction provides excellent crush resistance while remaining completely rust-proof and lightweight, making it ideal for agricultural water pump suction and fish pond drainage.
Abrasion Resistance
The ability of a hose’s outer cover or inner lining to withstand surface wear caused by mechanical friction, rough terrain, or the high-velocity flow of abrasive solids like sand, gravel, and wood chips.
